Female members of the French Resistance (1940s)
Well, no. Correct era, but these women were part of the Resistenza Italiana, an anti-fascist group that was part of the Italian War of Liberation, and positioned itself against Mussolini and Nazi Fascism in general. Women played an indispensable role in the Resistenza, and often nursed the wounded, organized, attended, and spoke at meetings and other community events, assisted families of those arrested or killed by the Fascists, provided shelter for those who needed it, and quite obviously handled weapons when they were able/willing/whatever. In short, total fucking bosses.
It’s also really worth noting that while occupying jobs left vacant by men fighting the war, they still managed to find time to damage German businesses and do all of this political organizing.
Not that La Résistance française wasn’t cool and all, but give the Italian anti-fas credit where it’s due, tumblr, come on.

animal underworld starts monday
“Henry Rollins explores the complex relationship between humans and animals by investigating dangerous and seemingly taboo practices around the world in the three-part series Animal Underworld. What drives some people to risk their lives wrestling alligators and wild hogs? Why do some cultures revere rats and cows as sacred, while others take up deadly snakes to show their faith in God? And why would anyone choose to eat a meal made out of road kill? Author, actor, and activist Henry Rollins wants to know. He travels the world immersing himself in different cultures to uncover why humans are out to worship, taste, and tame the wildest of creatures.” (natgeo)
SO EXCITED.
